Thinfinity Workspace 7 Upgrade from Previous Versions Guide

How to Upgrade from Previous Versions

Doc Type: How-to
Product: Thinfinity Workspace
Version: 7 and above

This document will guide you through the process of upgrading to Thinfinity Workspace 7 from previous versions.

Key Factors to Consider Before Upgrading

Profiles and user configurations

Thinfinity products are designed to save previous profiles and user configurations during the uninstall process. This means that if you have any profiles or configurations set up in a previous version of Thinfinity Workspace, it is safe to uninstall it. The saved profiles and configurations are stored in the Program Files and Program Data folders on the server and are compatible with each new version of Workspace that is released.

Customization

Web Aliases are a powerful feature that allows you to customize the logo and web styling of your RDP login page without modifying the original files. This is especially useful when upgrading to a new version of Thinfinity Workspace. Without Web Aliases, any changes you made to the files would be lost when the default files are replaced during the upgrade process.
To maintain your customizations, please make sure to use Web Aliases so that your landing page remains the same even after updating to a new version of Thinfinity Workspace.

Check web aliases compatibility between the versions of Thinfinity Workspace you plan to upgrade to avoid issues.

Thinfinity Workspace 7 comes with newer ways to create new themes and do white labeling. These can work together with web aliases. For more information on how to create a new Thinfinity Workspace theme, click here.

Licensing

If you are migrating from a previous version to Thinfinity Workspace 7 or from another product, such as Thinfinity Remote Desktop, it's important to obtain a new license that is compatible with Thinfinity Workspace 7 before proceeding with the upgrade.
This will prevent any issues during the upgrade process. To obtain a new license, please contact our team. They will guide you through the process to ensure a smooth transition.

Best practices

As a general consideration, we recommend that you test the latest release in a secure test environment before making any changes to your production scenario. This will allow you to make sure that everything works as expected before your end users are affected.

This option is for a standalone installation. Both a Thinfinity Services and Gateway Services installation coexist on the same computer. This installation can also work together with others in a Scaling and Load Balancing configuration.

Broker and HTML5 Services
This option only applies if you are using a Scaling and Load Balancing configuration. A Thinfinity Services installation works with at least one gateway installation and one or more other Thinfinity Services installations.

Reverse Gateway Only

12. Specify the destination folder and click Next.

13. Click Install to begin the installation process.
14. When complete, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.

15. Open the Thinfinity Workspace Configuration Manager from the Start menu and verify that your configuration has been preserved.
