Introduction
Web folders, often implemented through protocols like WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning), provide a user-friendly interface for managing files on web servers. Users can access, upload, download, and modify files directly through their file explorer, treating the web server as if it were a local folder. This technology enhances collaboration, simplifies file management, and facilitates remote access, making it an integral part of efficient and secure web-based workflows.
The purpose of this article is to guide new users on how to create a new Web Folder with WebDAV in Thinfinity Workspace.
Creating a Web Folder from a Browser
Accessing and Logging In to Thinfinity Workspace Portal
- First, open an HTML5 capable browser, navigate to the Workspace Portal and click Sign In.
- Next, enter your Username and Password, and then click Sign In.
Creating the Profile
- Select Web Folder and click Next.
If you are a Workspace web manager, in this step you can select whether the connection will be Public (make this profile available to other users) or Private (only you can access the profile) by enabling or disabling the slider.
- Here you need to enter the Path to a local folder that you want to provide access to on the remote host (e.g. C:\Users\doe\Documents\). This will be the Web Folder. After that click Next.
- Type a Name for the profile and then click Done.
You can create more profiles and commit all the changes at once when done.
Making Additional Configurations to the Profile (Optional)
- If you want to make changes to the profile configuration, click the more button on top of the connection icon, and then click Edit.
- Here you can perform advanced configurations. If you make any change, click on Save and Commit the change.
Testing the Web Folder Profile
- Once the profile is configured, click the Connection Icon to establish a connection to the Web Folder.
- You are now ready to start working with the Web Folder.
