Product: Thinfinity Workspace
Version: 7 and above

Introduction

z/Scope is a terminal emulator designed for accessing mainframes and other legacy systems. It provides a user-friendly interface, facilitating secure and efficient remote access to mainframe servers.

This article guides new users through creating a new z/Scope connection in Thinfinity Workspace. This is an essential step for secure remote access to any Mainframe, AS400, or Unix machines from a unique portal on any device.

Creating a z/Scope Profile from a Browser

  1. Start by logging into your Workspace. Once you are on the Home screen, click the + New Profile button to begin creating your z/Scope connection.
  2. In the "Let's create a new connection" window, select the Terminal option and click Next.
  3. On the following "Terminal Connection" screen, select Multi Terminal and click Next.

  4. Now, open the Thinfinity Configuration Manager where Thinfinity  Workspace is installed, and go to the z/Scope Classic tab. Once there, take note of the Pool Name and Access Code to be used in the z/Scope profile configuration.

  5. Back to the connection wizard on the Web Manager, use the Pool Name and Access Code obtained from the Configuration Manager, and enter them in the appropriate fields, then click Next

  6. Type a Name for the profile and then click Done.
  7. Finally, click Commit to save the changes to the profile.

Configuring the z/Scope Connection

  1. Click the z/Scope profile to start the connection.

  2. To set up a new connection, select File > Connection Wizard from the menu bar.

  3. Create the new connection by navigating the setup wizard in a single process: click Next on the Welcome screen, select the host type (e.g., IBM AS/400), configure display options, and enter the host's address, clicking Next to advance through each stage. Finally, name the profile, click Finish, and confirm by clicking Yes to open the session.

  4. Now you have access to the Legacy System.

Making Additional Configurations to the Profile (Optional)

  1. If you want to make changes to the profile configuration, click the three dots button on top of the connection icon, and then click Edit.

  2. Here you can perform advanced configurations. If you make any change, click on Save and Commit the change.

Conclusion

In summary, this document serves as a starting guide to creating a z/Scope connection in Thinfinity Workspace, which is critical for new users seeking secure remote access to mainframes, AS400 or Unix machines from a unified portal accessible from any device. z/Scope provides an easy-to-use interface that promotes secure and efficient remote interaction with legacy systems, significantly increasing productivity in industries that rely on this technology.
