Product: Thinfinity Workspace
Version: 7 and above

Introduction

z/Scope is a terminal emulator designed for accessing mainframes and other legacy systems. It provides a user-friendly interface, facilitating secure and efficient remote access to mainframe servers, enhancing productivity in industries relying on legacy systems.
The purpose of this article is to guide new users on how to create a new z/Scope connection in Thinfinity Workspace. This is an essential step for secure remote access to any Mainframe, AS400 or Unix machine from a unique portal, and on any device.

Creating a z/Scope connection from a browser

Accessing and Logging In to Thinfinity Workspace Portal

  • First, open an HTML5 capable browser, navigate to the Workspace Portal and click Sign In.

  • Next, enter your Username and Password, and then click Sign In.

Creating the Profile

  • Click on +New Profile.

  • Select Terminal and click Next.

  • Here, you must choose the type of terminal connection. Select Multi Terminal and click Next.

  • Now, access the Thinfinity Configuration Manager on the server where Workspace is installed, and go to the z/Scope Classic tab. Once there, take note of the Pool Name and Access Code to be used in the z/Scope profile configuration. When finished, click Close.

  • In this window, you will need to use the Pool Name and Access Code just obtained from the Thinfinity Configuration Manager. Enter them in the appropriate fields. After that, click Next.

  • Type a Name for the profile and then click Done.

  • Finally, click Commit to save the changes to the profile.
You can create more profiles and commit all the changes at once when done.

Making additional configurations to the profile (optional)

  • If you want to make changes to the profile configuration, click the more button on top of the connection icon, and then click Edit.

  • Here you can perform advanced configurations. If you make any change, click on Save and Commit the change.

Configuring the z/Scope connection

  • Once the profile is configured, click the Connection Icon to open a virtualized z/Scope session.

  • You are now ready to access the z/Scope interface and configure the connection to the remote host. To do this, click File, and then click Connection Wizard.

  • Go through the Welcome screen by clicking Next.

  • Here, select the host type from Unix, AS400, or Mainframe. For this example we will select IBM AS/400. Then click Next.

  • Select any display options you prefer, and then click Next.

  • In this step, enter the DNS name or IP address of the host. Then click Next.

  • Type a Name for the profile and click Finish.

Testing the Web Folder profile

  • Once the profile is configured, confirm the connection setup by clicking Yes. This will also open the connection.

  • Now you have access to the Legacy System.
