Enable Multi-Monitor in Thinfinity Workspace RDC

How to Enable the Multi-Monitor Feature in Thinfinity Workspace

Overview

The multi-monitor feature in Thinfinity Workspace lets you span an RDC session across more than one physical display, so you can work with multiple windows side by side just as you would on a local desktop. This article explains how to activate the feature on an RDC connection and how to preconfigure the number of displays used for the session.

Prerequisites

Before enabling multi-monitor, make sure H.264 video encoding is enabled on the access profile. Multi-monitor relies on H.264 to deliver smooth performance across several displays, so the option will not work without it. If H.264 is not yet active in your environment, follow the steps in How to Enable H264 in Thinfinity Workspace first.

  • Access to the Thinfinity Workspace Web Manager with permissions to edit RDC connections.
  • An existing RDC connection you want to use across multiple displays.
  • H.264 enabled on the access profile that the connection uses.
  • A client device with two or more physical displays available.

Activate the Multi-Monitor Feature

Once H.264 is enabled, activating multi-monitor on an existing RDC connection takes only a few clicks.

  1. Open the Thinfinity Workspace Web Manager and locate the RDC connection you want to edit.
  2. Open the connection and navigate to the Display options within the RDC connection settings.
  3. Toggle the Multi-monitor indicator on to activate the feature.
  4. Save the connection settings.

Configure the Number of Displays

From the same Display options panel, you can preconfigure how many monitors the session should use. This is useful when you want to lock the session to a specific layout regardless of how many displays the client device exposes.

  1. In the RDC connection's Display options, locate the Monitor Count setting.
  2. Set Monitor Count to the number of displays you want to use during the connection.
  3. Save the changes.

Verification

Launch the RDC connection from the Thinfinity Workspace portal. The session should open and span across the number of monitors you configured. You can drag windows freely between displays as you would in a local Windows session.

Troubleshooting

If the session opens on a single monitor only, check the following:

  • Confirm that H.264 is enabled on the access profile used by the RDC connection. Without H.264, the multi-monitor toggle will not take effect.
  • Verify that the Multi-monitor indicator is enabled and that the connection was saved after the change.
  • Confirm that the Monitor Count value matches the number of physical displays connected to the client device.
  • Make sure the browser window has been allowed to use multiple displays — most browsers prompt for this permission the first time a multi-monitor session is started.
