Install Thinfinity Remote Printer Agent: Step-by-Step Guide

How to Install and Use the Thinfinity Remote Printer Agent

Overview

With Thinfinity® Workspace and Thinfinity® VirtualUI, you can take advantage of the Remote Printer Agent to send print jobs from your remote session directly to your local printer. The agent runs on your client machine and acts as a virtual channel between the remote application and the physical printer attached to your computer.

Note: This feature is available only in Enterprise editions.

Installing the Printer Agent

Follow these steps to install the agent on your local machine.

  1. Download the Thinfinity Remote Printer Agent setup package.
  2. Run the setup. On the Welcome screen, click Next.
  3. Click Install to begin the installation.
  4. When the installer finishes, check the Launch Thinfinity® Virtual Channels Agent box and click Finish.

Configuring Your Local Printer

Once the agent is running, it appears as a small icon in the Windows system tray. Use it to point the remote printer to a specific local device.

  1. Right-click the agent icon in the system tray and select Setup Printer.
  2. In the combo box, choose the local printer you want to use as the destination for the Thinfinity Remote Desktop Printer or Thinfinity VirtualUI Printer.
  3. Click Apply to save your changes.

Sending a Print Job

From inside your remote session, open the document you want to print and choose Print. In the Print dialog, the printers labeled as redirected correspond to the local devices you configured in the agent's Redirected Printers box. Select one of those redirected printers to send the job back to your local hardware.

Verification

After printing, confirm that the document comes out of the expected local printer. If the job does not appear, check the following:

  • The Thinfinity Virtual Channels Agent icon is visible in the system tray of your local machine.
  • A valid local printer is selected in the agent's setup window and the change has been applied.
  • You picked a printer marked as redirected in the remote application's Print dialog.
  • Your Thinfinity edition is Enterprise — the Printer Agent is not included in other editions.
