How to Create your First RDP Connection Terminal Server (local Host)

How to Create your First RDP Connection Terminal Server (local Host)

1. Introduction

Welcome to this comprehensive guide, specifically designed to streamline the setup of your initial RDP connection using Thinfinity® Workspace. This tutorial focuses on creating an RDP connection on the same server where Thinfinity® Workspace is installed, which enables multiple concurrent users to access Terminal Server sessions or RemoteApps.

This configuration requires Thinfinity® Workspace to be installed on a Terminal Server with the Thinfinity® Remote Desktop (RD) roles enabled. By enabling the RD roles, you enhance your server's functionality, allowing it to host multiple user sessions concurrently and serving RemoteApps when needed.

By following this guide, you will be able to effectively leverage Thinfinity® Workspace's capabilities, transforming your Terminal Server into a powerful platform for remote access and application delivery.

*NOTE
Bear in mind that to use this configuration the machine needs to be a Windows Server X64 Bits 2003/8/12/12R2/16/19/22 with the RDS role enabled.

2. Set Up an RDP Connection with Workspace 7

With Thinfinity® Workspace 7, you can easily create a Remote Desktop access from your web browser. ●
  1. In order to use this feature, you need to open the Thinfinity Configuration Manager already installed on your device. Then, select the HTTP Gateway connection and click on the Browse button.

  1. Once you have clicked on it, you will be redirected to your default web browser, into Thinfinity® Workspace 7’s landing page.
  2. Sign in.
  3. Click on the New Profile button.

  1. After that, you will be prompted to choose the type of connection you would like to establish.

There are four options to choose from:

    ○ Desktop
Access to a remote desktop or shared screen.

    ○ Application
Access to a remote app or intranet web app.

    ○ Web Folder
Share a folder on this PC.

    ○ Terminal
Access to a terminal or SSH terminal.

*NOTE
By default, the option “Make this profile available to other users” will be enabled. However, you can choose to disable it by moving the toggle.

  1. Select a connection type and click Next.

*NOTE
In this case, we will select the Desktop option, in order to start the Remote Desktop connection setup.

  1. Now we are able to create three types of connections:

    ○ RDP
Access to a remote desktop using RDP.

    ○ VNC/RFB
Access to a remote desktop using RDP.

    ○ ThinVNC
Access to a remote shared screen using Thinfinity VNC.

In this case, we will create a Remote Desktop Protocol - RDP connection.

  1. Select, again, and click Next.

  1. You can create the connection to the same PC by selecting This PC (The server where Thinfinity is installed), or to Another PC.

*NOTE
In this case, we will generate a connection selecting This PC.

  1. At this step, you can select how you want to handle the credentials to access this resource.
    1. Credentials
      1. Use the authentication credentials.
      2. Ask for new credentials.
      3. Use these credentials.
This will allow you to connect without being prompted for credentials every time you connect,
but in this case, since we are not going to use this feature, click Connect and proceed.

  1. Create a name for your profile, then click Done.

  1.  A box will appear requesting you to Rollback or Commit the changes, click on Commit.

  1. Now you can open the published application by going to “http://127.0.0.1:Port” and clicking on the newly created Profile!
