Thinfinity Workspace Upgrading from Previous Versions Guide

How to Upgrade from Previous Versions

Introduction

This article presents the upgrade process for Thinfinity® Workspace from version 7 onwards.

Prerequisites

You have created a backup copy of your configuration, for details on how to do that, read this article.

Key Factors to Consider Before Upgrading

Profiles and user configurations

Thinfinity products are engineered to preserve user profiles and configurations during upgrades. Because these settings are stored in the server's Program Files and ProgramData directories, you can safely uninstall previous versions of Thinfinity Workspace without losing your data. Your existing profiles are fully compatible with new releases. The primary location for persistent user data is C:\ProgramData\Cybele Software\Thinfinity\Workspace\DB.

Customization

The Web Aliases feature decouples your UI customizations (such as logos and CSS styling) from the original installation files. This is critical for maintenance, as standard updates to Thinfinity Workspace replace default files and would otherwise erase direct modifications. Implementing Web Aliases ensures your custom login page persists seamlessly across all future version upgrades.

Licensing

If you are migrating from a version of Thinfinity Workspace from a prior version to 8 or from another product, such as Thinfinity Remote Desktop, it's important to obtain a new license suitable for Thinfinity Workspace 8 or the respective version before proceeding with the upgrade.

This will avoid any issues during the upgrade process. To obtain a new license, please get in touch with our team. Our experts will be able to guide you through the process to ensure a smooth transition.

Best practices

As a general consideration, we recommend testing the newest version in a safe testing environment before making any changes to your production setting. This will ensure that everything is working as expected.
